Some weeks are slow on the Q&A front then it just pours questions!! So here I am sitting in Cornwall (UK), on holiday enjoying a very nice English summer while its cold an wet at home blogging 🙂
So this question comes from another great FB networking group I belong to – How do you figure out your workplace culture?
As a business owner this is something you shouldn’t do alone. Unless you don’t give a shit what your staff think or feel. I suggest you follow my 9 sneaky steps to figure it out together –
In a facilitated session, with your staff answer the following –
- If a magazine was going to do an article on our biz culture what would the highlights be?.
- What is the one thing about our company vision that resonates with you?
- Go through the biz social media (FB, Instagram, Pintrest, twitter, videos…) What is the common theme?
- What do we do for fun around here? How do we get to know each other?
- How do we react to poor customer feedback?
- How do we react when one of the team fails to meet their goals (through no fault of their own)?
- Take a look at the business’s marketing material, communications etc – do these reflect what the company is actually like? or what you want it to be like?
- Describe the office atmosphere – the desks, how they are set up, what’s on them, how people interact with each other (or not), is there chatter or deadly silence?
- Out of everything you have discussed today, what’s missing? what hasn’t been discussed and why has it not be raised? is it important? what does it effect?
Pull all this info together and take a hard look at it. Is it illustrating all the right moves towards becoming the best company you can be? or is what you see going against everything you are working towards?
Your findings will either help refine, define or create your workplace culture.
